The Filigree Mirror uses one of the earliest known methods for creating jewelry. The Filigree Mirror is entirely handcrafted, with each brass cord precisely fitted, and it flourishes in a shape that is typical of Portuguese art and culture. This opulent mirror is an authentic piece of art that honors the heritage and workmanship that are at the heart of Boca do Lobo. The filigree mirror is made of brass wire plated with 18k gold. The surface of the mirror is concave, achieved by hand-hammering a sheet of metal. As a technique for transforming small beads and twisted threads into jewelry, filigree is the most delicate method when working with precious metals, usually gold and silver. In this ancient and difficult method of composite jewelry making, artisans painstakingly fuse small beads and twisted threads into beautiful, sometimes intricate and imaginative shapes that resemble beautiful lace patterns.
